The rules of ARIA by Hidde de Vries

The first rule of ARIA is ‘Don’t use ARIA!’. Eh, what? Yes. WAI-ARIA is a fantastic set of techniques that helps plug accessibility gaps where just HTML doesn't cut it. But you will not need it for everything.

In this full day workshop Hidde de Vries goes into techniques that can make your websites and apps work better for more people. He will show how semantic HTML can give you accessibility for free. You will also learn when to use ARIA and for what kind of things.

During the day, Hidde will teach accessible techniques with real life components and look at how to improve existing code. You will also be building your own component, which you can take back to your own projects. In the afternoon, we will be joined by someone who benefits from improved accessibility. They will test your work and provide feedback.
